Fall 2009: Bedsores and Corporate Welfare
The SEIU 1199 / United Healthcare Workers East union wanted to get the word out about what they feel is substandard care being provided to patients at a number of nursing homes in Northern New Jersey, which are owned by Jersey City based Omni Assets Management. Since mid October, they have run three different billboard truck campaigns with distinct messages.During the first ad's run, the mobile billboard truck was also used to lead a parade of several thousand union members during a Saturday rally in Jersey City's Journal Square. Finally, in addition to their concerns about patient care, the union has recently raised awareness among New Jersey tax payers that their taxes are allegedly being used to help support a highly profitable business.
