Winter 2009-2010: Ovum Ups the Ante with Guerrilla Recruiting

Ovum / Datamonitor used our mobile billboard trucks to recruit professionals during a competitor's merger

Ovum / Datamonitor was looking to hire experienced research analysts. They knew that the Gartner Group, a competitor, was in the process of acquiring AMR Research, and believed layoffs would soon result from the acquisition.

So, working in both downtown Boston and Stamford, CT, our mobile billboard truck visited selected office buildings, lunchtime eateries and retail areas, commuter rail stations, and health clubs where the target audience was believed to be present during various parts of the day.

During the mobile billboard's first day on the road, within 1-2 blocks of the AMR Research offices, a pedestrian in Boston took a photo of the truck and forwarded it to the Sage Circle blog, where it became the subject of spirited commentary for several days. This was clearly an example of mobile billboards being used for a quickly launched, highly focused ambush advertising campaign.
